This piece explores the relation between composed and improvised music. And is written with a classical flutist in mind that longs to improvise, within guided phrames.

Seagulls inspire the theme; a bird that melts the wild nature of the ocean with the roughness of the harbor and city. An animal that gave sailors a sign that land was not too far ahead. And a creature that has been described very delicately and playfully by Richard Bach in the book Jonathan Livingston Seagull – a story. This piece explores the inspiration of music in abstract relation to the seagull. It is up to the musician to read and interpret the music with their imagination in relation to seagulls.

“Don’t believe what your eyes are telling you.
All they show is limitation.
Look with your understanding.
Find out what you already know, and you will see the way to fly.”
- Quote of inspiration from Jonathan Livingston Seagull by Richard Bach
